ANKURI's mission is to empower village women to become economically self sufficient. This enables them to be decision makers in their families thus improving the health and education of their children.
We are located in Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand. We are about six hours northeast of New Delhi, nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas in the middle of a natural forest reserve. What began as a local knitting initiative has expanded to two locations to accommodate farming, literacy, and knitting programs. Now ANKURI consists of a base center at Bharatwala where the main knitting and education initiatives are housed, and a second farming initiative located further in the mountains near the village of Rikholi.
