The Knitting Center

The knitting center is ANKURI's original focus. At the knitting center, village women are provided with an opportunity to create beautiful handmade goods in order to earn their own income. The money that they earn allows them to make purchases to support themselves and their families. The financial independence created by the knitting program empowers the women, and the social aspect of knitting allows them to form a community with other knitters in their area. Their final products are sold by Pure Hands, an ANKURI affiliated company. As the knitting center has expanded, village women have filled managerial roles in the program. The ultimate goal of the program is to create a sustainable business that supports the village women and run by the village women.

Intern with the center

Interns can contribute to the knitting center by creating promotional material, planning how to sell products in the United States, and by assisting with securing orders of knitted products. There are also opportunities to interview knitters for and to create on-campus branches of ANKURI that sell Pure Hands products to students and faculty on your college campus.
